April’s Member of the Month is Jay Butler!

When and how did you get started with us?

  • I joined WPF sometime around May/June of 2016, at the suggestion of my wife, Rachel, who spoke highly of the community and workouts.

Favorite workout?

  • Difficult to narrow down, since the variety is a big part of the appeal of CrossFit. I enjoy partner WOD’s for the little extra motivation, though there is a lifting EMOM WOD I’ll go to at the fire station when I can’t decide on anything else.
With a running clock, every minute perform 1 lift, adding 10 pounds each time (Women add 5.) Start with an empty barbell and Snatch for as long as possible. Once you cannot Snatch the weight, Clean for as long as possible. Once you cannot Clean the weight, Deadlift for as long as possible. (I can generally go about 30 minutes. The weight adds up faster than you think.)

Least favorite workout?

  • Most of The Girls and I are in the midst of Love/Hate relationships.

What’s the best part about working out with the your class time?

  • My work schedule is a bit unusual, so on my days off, the 4:15 slot works out great, fitting in nicely after the side job and house work, and before picking up Lochlan from school. The “regular” 4:15 group is an awesome bunch, with fantastic motivators.

What’s the wallpaper on your phone right now?

  • A photo of Rachel and Lochlan.

What’s a song that you hope comes on during a WOD?

  • Tough to go wrong with AC/DC or Dropkick Murphys

What’s the last thing you searched for on Google?

  • The Girls, just to remind myself how much fun they all are.

What’s your favorite treat?

  • Peanut Butter, whether it’s inside a Reese’s Cup or not.

If you could be any animal in the world, what animal would you be and why?

  • Mackenzie Valley Wolf, so I could be a part of a pack, instead of on my own in the wilderness, and if I’m picking, I might as well choose the largest of the species.

You’re a new addition to the crayon box. What color would you be and why?

  • Some new take on a dark shade of blue, or anything that blends in and meshes the best with the others. Never been much for drawing attention.

Thanks again for considering me. I’ll try to do the recognition justice.

March’s Member of the Month is Scott Shelton

When and how did you get started with us?

  • I think it was May last year. I compared nearby options and liked the space, people and workouts the most at WPF. Other places I visited would have something bad to say about their competitors, but Jason and Roni never said anything negative about OTF or 9Round and urged me to try them all and pick the one that worked the best for me.

Favorite workout?

  • Anything not Burpees.

Least favorite workout?

  • Burpees.

What’s the best part about working out with the your class time?

  • Getting to know my classmates and coaches and being tired at the end of the day.

  • A picture of me and my wife.

What’s a song that you hope comes on during a WOD?

  • Eye of the Tiger…a bit cheesy but, hey, it’s from Rocky III.

What’s the wallpaper on your phone right now?

  • My phone wallpaper is a picture of the beautiful beach in Rincon, PR.

What’s a song that you hope comes on during a WOD?

  • I like the song Despacito

What’s the last thing you searched for on Google?

  • One of the last things I searched for on Google was the “Bring Sally Up” song we did in class today. I really liked it!

What’s your favorite treat?

  • My favorite treat is anything chocolate.

If you could be any animal in the world, what animal would you be and why?

  • If I were an animal I think I would be a cat, so I could have 9 lives!

You’re a new addition to the crayon box. What color would you be and why?

  • My crayon color would be a shade of yellow. It reminds me of the sun and warmth — which I love!

Thank you, WPF!!

October’s Member of the Month is Jody Freedlund!

Congratulations, Jody – you totally deserve this!

  • Not a fan of wallballls but I’m working on not hating them. Snatched are still an uphill climb for me so I don’t love seeing them on the whiteboard.

What’s the best part about working out with the your class time?

  • My regular class is 5:15. It feels like a family. We support one another inside and outside of the gym.

What’s a song that you hope comes on during a WOD?

  • Workout music favorite for sure Eminem, and Michael Jackson, oddly:) Heavy metal is good too.

Thank you, WPF!!

September’s Member of the Month is Chris Santry!

Congratulations, Chris – you totally deserve this!

When and how did you get started with us?

  • I started with the “New You Challenge” in summer 2017. I’ve never committed to going to the gym routinely, and I learned why when I started CrossFit… I wasn’t having any fun. WPF has taught me to enjoy working out and every class is different.

Favorite workout?

  • Anything that doesn’t include thrusters

Least favorite workout?

  • Anything that includes thrusters

What’s the best part about working out with the your class time?

  • The 7:30 group is usually pretty small and regular. We get to know each other’s strengths and weaknesses, which allows us to learn from each other and push each other, and ourselves, to get better, faster, and stronger.

What’s the wallpaper on your phone right now?

  • My baby girl, Charlie. She is 4 months old on September 12th.

What’s a song that you hope comes on during a WOD?

  • Centerfield by John Fogerty and/or Good Vibrations by Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch, lol

August’s Member of the Month is Kacey Brackin!

Congratulations, Kacey on your COTM nomination and constant hard work around the gym!

When and how did you get started with us?

  • I started in October of 2017 when several of the members from my previous gym had switched over and spoke highly of WPF. I did my first workout with the 5:30AM class and coach Randy, and I immediately knew this was where I needed to be.

Favorite workout?

  • I prefer any workout that involves a barbell, but my favorite workout is probably Fran (21-15-9 Thrusters and pull-ups). Cleans are my all time favorite lift.

Least favorite workout?

  • Anything involving running or rowing for a long distance…I’m a shorty so I don’t have the natural long stride that the other taller members have.

What’s the best part about working out with the your class time?

  • I tend to jump between the 5:30AM morning class and the 6:15PM evening class, but both groups of athletes are always fun to workout with. You can count on the same group at 5:30AM, which is comforting because we know how to push each other through the wods. The 6:15PM provides more variety, which is great because it’s an opportunity to meet new members or athletes that I don’t normally get the opportunity to workout with. I’m competitive so it’s great to see some of the other members progressing and improving, which motivates me to do better.

What’s the wallpaper on your phone right now?

  • A picture of my fur baby, Murray.

What’s a song that you hope comes on during a WOD?

  • Anything and everything rap, preferably Drake. I’ve been known to “politely” request the song be changed if it’s not something rap related during the workout.

What’s the last thing you searched for on Google?

  • UAB (University of Alabama at Birmingham) MBA graduation date…my husband Tim and I are currently both pursuing our MBA’s together…only 270 more days to go….

What’s your favorite treat?

  • Oreos. Hands down. They are my vice.

If you could be any animal in the world, what animal would you be and why?

  • I’d be a dolphin. Dolphins are very intelligent, compassionate, social animals that are feared by sharks. Anything that can terrify and fight off a shark is pretty incredible.

You’re a new addition to the crayon box. What color would you be and why?

  • Bahamas blue. There is nothing like the crystal blue color of that water. My mood instantly changes anytime I look at pictures of that water from our recent trip.
09 Jun

June’s Member of the Month is Sarah Tarpley!

Congratulations, Sarah on your COTM nomination. Every time we see you in class you are always working hard and very encouraging to everyone.

When and how did you get started with us?

  • I got started with WPF a year ago this past May. Catherine Nix- who lives in my neighborhood- was walking her dog one day when I stopped her to ask how she got her body to look like that because I wanted that too. She said WPF and invited me to a class- the rest is history.

Favorite workout?

  • My favorite WOD would be any Hero WOD or Partner WOD

Least favorite workout?

  • Least favorite WOD- anything that has a bike in it.

What’s the best part about working out with the your class time?

  • The best part about working out with my class time is that the class sizes are always large- love our competitive nature. We are always pushing each other to do our best.

What’s the wallpaper on your phone right now?

  • Wallpaper on my phone currently is a picture of my 4 favorite men- my husband Terence, Tylon and Tyton ( our son’s), and our dog Wisdom.

What’s a song that you hope comes on during a WOD?

  • A song that I hope comes on in a WOD would be any of Randy’s music selections- he has great taste in music!

What’s the last thing you searched for on Google?

  • Last thing I searched for on Google was Stockyard Burger- the closest location

What’s your favorite treat?

  • My favorite treat would be a bowl of Honey Nut Cheerios with bananas and cranberries on top

If you could be any animal in the world, what animal would you be and why?

  • If I could be any animal in the world – I would be a Panther- they are strong and loyal.

You’re a new addition to the crayon box. What color would you be and why?

  • If I were a new color to a crayon box it would be Sarah Sprinkle- a mauve color with a little bit of sparkle to it- not to bold but leaves a statement behind.
01 May

May’s Member of the Month is Christine Godwin!

I am so honored to have been chosen as May’s Client of the Month. There are so many members and coaches I admire, who push me to exceed my limits and make me stronger. So, it’s extremely humbling to be told I inspire others. I have loved every minute of my time as a member of Warrior Pride Fitness and look forward to many more years being a part of with this fantastic community.

When and how did you get started with us?

  • I visited WPF with a friend in August 2015 and did a trial WOD. Needless to say, I loved it and the welcoming feeling I received from the coaches and other members. Within a week, I was a Warrior- In-Training and couldn’t wait to get started.

Favorite workout?

  • It’s difficult to narrow it down to a favorite, because what I love most about WPF is the variety of exercises incorporated into the WODs. I never get bored because it’s different every day. But, I probably enjoy most the WODs that have an equal balance of cardio and strength, like interval training.

Least favorite workout?

  • Anyone who’s worked out with me has heard me say less than pleasant things about the assault bike and wall balls, so, pretty much any WOD that includes a lot of those.

What’s the best part about working out with the your class time?

  • I love working out with my regular bootcamp group because there is such a great sense of camaraderie and humor. But, I also like going to class at other times. It gives me the chance to work out with members I don’t see on a regular basis and meet new members. I love the mental “push” I get from working out with members who are stronger or faster than I am, and can always count on the coaches to help me improve and reach new goals.

What’s the wallpaper on your phone right now?

  • I have two: a beautiful picture of Crater Lake, Oregon (taken last September); and a picture of my sons, Jarrett and Bryce on the beach in Destin in 2007.

What’s a song that you hope comes on during a WOD?

  • Let’s Get Ridiculous by Redfoo or Pump It by Black Eyed Peas

What’s the last thing you searched for on Google?

  • Haha, while travelling home yesterday from Moultrie, Georgia, and looking for somewhere to eat breakfast, I searched for the Denny’s menu (specifically regarding pancakes). Bryce had never eaten there, so I had to convince him Denny’s was a suitable substitute for IHOP.

What’s your favorite treat?

  • Guacamole and chips

If you could be any animal in the world, what animal would you be and why?

  • I think I’d love to be a dolphin. The most obvious reason: the beach and ocean is a happy place for me. But, also, they are fascinating in their ability to communicate and develop strong social bonds with their own species as well as others.

You’re a new addition to the crayon box. What color would you be and why?

  • Seriously, have you seen the list of Crayola colors? I’m not sure there are many new options; but, in a nod to my Irish heritage and sometimes girly-girl side, it would have to be Kelly Green with Silver Glitter.
