September’s Member of the Month is Chris Santry!

Congratulations, Chris – you totally deserve this!

When and how did you get started with us?

  • I started with the “New You Challenge” in summer 2017. I’ve never committed to going to the gym routinely, and I learned why when I started CrossFit… I wasn’t having any fun. WPF has taught me to enjoy working out and every class is different.

Favorite workout?

  • Anything that doesn’t include thrusters

Least favorite workout?

  • Anything that includes thrusters

What’s the best part about working out with the your class time?

  • The 7:30 group is usually pretty small and regular. We get to know each other’s strengths and weaknesses, which allows us to learn from each other and push each other, and ourselves, to get better, faster, and stronger.

What’s the wallpaper on your phone right now?

  • My baby girl, Charlie. She is 4 months old on September 12th.

What’s a song that you hope comes on during a WOD?

  • Centerfield by John Fogerty and/or Good Vibrations by Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch, lol

What’s the last thing you searched for on Google?

  • “Type 1 diabetes mismatched insulin with nutrition” – – I am a nurse for a company that develops diabetes management software which provides insulin dose recommendations for patients in the hospital.

What’s your favorite treat?

  • Probably a handcrafted margarita. For those that need a good recipe, this is what I use at home:
    • 2 oz Milagro reposado tequila
    • 1 oz Grand Marnier
    • 1 oz agave nectar
    • 1 oz fresh lime juice
    • 1 oz water
    • Shake and strain over fresh ice.

If you could be any animal in the world, what animal would you be and why?

  • Kangaroo… sounds like a good time

You’re a new addition to the crayon box. What color would you be and why?

  • Georgia Bulldogs Red… because there ain’t nothin’ finer in the land… or box.

August’s Member of the Month is Kacey Brackin!

Congratulations, Kacey on your COTM nomination and constant hard work around the gym!

When and how did you get started with us?

  • I started in October of 2017 when several of the members from my previous gym had switched over and spoke highly of WPF. I did my first workout with the 5:30AM class and coach Randy, and I immediately knew this was where I needed to be.

Favorite workout?

  • I prefer any workout that involves a barbell, but my favorite workout is probably Fran (21-15-9 Thrusters and pull-ups). Cleans are my all time favorite lift.

Least favorite workout?

  • Anything involving running or rowing for a long distance…I’m a shorty so I don’t have the natural long stride that the other taller members have.

What’s the best part about working out with the your class time?

  • I tend to jump between the 5:30AM morning class and the 6:15PM evening class, but both groups of athletes are always fun to workout with. You can count on the same group at 5:30AM, which is comforting because we know how to push each other through the wods. The 6:15PM provides more variety, which is great because it’s an opportunity to meet new members or athletes that I don’t normally get the opportunity to workout with. I’m competitive so it’s great to see some of the other members progressing and improving, which motivates me to do better.

What’s the wallpaper on your phone right now?

  • A picture of my fur baby, Murray.

What’s a song that you hope comes on during a WOD?

  • Anything and everything rap, preferably Drake. I’ve been known to “politely” request the song be changed if it’s not something rap related during the workout.

What’s the last thing you searched for on Google?

  • UAB (University of Alabama at Birmingham) MBA graduation date…my husband Tim and I are currently both pursuing our MBA’s together…only 270 more days to go….

What’s your favorite treat?

  • Oreos. Hands down. They are my vice.

If you could be any animal in the world, what animal would you be and why?

  • I’d be a dolphin. Dolphins are very intelligent, compassionate, social animals that are feared by sharks. Anything that can terrify and fight off a shark is pretty incredible.

You’re a new addition to the crayon box. What color would you be and why?

  • Bahamas blue. There is nothing like the crystal blue color of that water. My mood instantly changes anytime I look at pictures of that water from our recent trip.

June’s Member of the Month is Sarah Tarpley!

Congratulations, Sarah on your COTM nomination. Every time we see you in class you are always working hard and very encouraging to everyone.

When and how did you get started with us?

  • I got started with WPF a year ago this past May. Catherine Nix- who lives in my neighborhood- was walking her dog one day when I stopped her to ask how she got her body to look like that because I wanted that too. She said WPF and invited me to a class- the rest is history.

Favorite workout?

  • My favorite WOD would be any Hero WOD or Partner WOD

Least favorite workout?

  • Least favorite WOD- anything that has a bike in it.

What’s the best part about working out with the your class time?

  • The best part about working out with my class time is that the class sizes are always large- love our competitive nature. We are always pushing each other to do our best.

What’s the wallpaper on your phone right now?

  • Wallpaper on my phone currently is a picture of my 4 favorite men- my husband Terence, Tylon and Tyton ( our son’s), and our dog Wisdom.

What’s a song that you hope comes on during a WOD?

  • A song that I hope comes on in a WOD would be any of Randy’s music selections- he has great taste in music!

What’s the last thing you searched for on Google?

  • Last thing I searched for on Google was Stockyard Burger- the closest location

What’s your favorite treat?

  • My favorite treat would be a bowl of Honey Nut Cheerios with bananas and cranberries on top

If you could be any animal in the world, what animal would you be and why?

  • If I could be any animal in the world – I would be a Panther- they are strong and loyal.

You’re a new addition to the crayon box. What color would you be and why?

  • If I were a new color to a crayon box it would be Sarah Sprinkle- a mauve color with a little bit of sparkle to it- not to bold but leaves a statement behind.

May’s Member of the Month is Christine Godwin!

I am so honored to have been chosen as May’s Client of the Month. There are so many members and coaches I admire, who push me to exceed my limits and make me stronger. So, it’s extremely humbling to be told I inspire others. I have loved every minute of my time as a member of Warrior Pride Fitness and look forward to many more years being a part of with this fantastic community.

When and how did you get started with us?

  • I visited WPF with a friend in August 2015 and did a trial WOD. Needless to say, I loved it and the welcoming feeling I received from the coaches and other members. Within a week, I was a Warrior- In-Training and couldn’t wait to get started.

Favorite workout?

  • It’s difficult to narrow it down to a favorite, because what I love most about WPF is the variety of exercises incorporated into the WODs. I never get bored because it’s different every day. But, I probably enjoy most the WODs that have an equal balance of cardio and strength, like interval training.

Least favorite workout?

  • Anyone who’s worked out with me has heard me say less than pleasant things about the assault bike and wall balls, so, pretty much any WOD that includes a lot of those.

What’s the best part about working out with the your class time?

  • I love working out with my regular bootcamp group because there is such a great sense of camaraderie and humor. But, I also like going to class at other times. It gives me the chance to work out with members I don’t see on a regular basis and meet new members. I love the mental “push” I get from working out with members who are stronger or faster than I am, and can always count on the coaches to help me improve and reach new goals.

What’s the wallpaper on your phone right now?

  • I have two: a beautiful picture of Crater Lake, Oregon (taken last September); and a picture of my sons, Jarrett and Bryce on the beach in Destin in 2007.

What’s a song that you hope comes on during a WOD?

  • Let’s Get Ridiculous by Redfoo or Pump It by Black Eyed Peas

What’s the last thing you searched for on Google?

  • Haha, while travelling home yesterday from Moultrie, Georgia, and looking for somewhere to eat breakfast, I searched for the Denny’s menu (specifically regarding pancakes). Bryce had never eaten there, so I had to convince him Denny’s was a suitable substitute for IHOP.

What’s your favorite treat?

  • Guacamole and chips

If you could be any animal in the world, what animal would you be and why?

  • I think I’d love to be a dolphin. The most obvious reason: the beach and ocean is a happy place for me. But, also, they are fascinating in their ability to communicate and develop strong social bonds with their own species as well as others.

You’re a new addition to the crayon box. What color would you be and why?

  • Seriously, have you seen the list of Crayola colors? I’m not sure there are many new options; but, in a nod to my Irish heritage and sometimes girly-girl side, it would have to be Kelly Green with Silver Glitter.

April’s Member of the Month is Lisa Sward!

When and how did you get started with us?

  • I started August 2017 after becoming friends with Josh and his family. Our children go to school together.

Favorite workout?

  • I like workouts that have moderate weights and interesting movements—like the bear couples.
  • I like agility/speed work

Least favorite workout?
Any long cardio only work outs. I am not a huge fan for the bike.

What’s the best part about working out with the your class time?

  • I tend the changes classes depending on my daily schedule. The nice thing is the all the classes and coaches have been welcoming and very helpful to me.

What’s the wallpaper on your phone right now?

  1. Changing of the guard at Arlington Cemetery
  2. A double rainbow in Kauai, HI

What’s a song that you hope comes on during a WOD?

  • Country—like Jason Aldean, Florida Georgia Line

What’s the last thing you searched for on Google?

  • DawgNation

What’s your favorite treat?

  • Tiramisu from Cafe 30-A

If you could be any animal in the world, what animal would you be and why?

  • A momma grizzly because I would be happy to peacefully roam around the mountains eating roots and berries with my kid. But if you messed with my kid, or me, too much…..well then

You’re a new addition to the crayon box. What color would you be and why?

  • Dawg Red because I love college football.

Precision Nutrition/ Pro Coaching review:

Josh and the PN program has equipped me to lose 20+ pounds since August. I have been active my whole life but I was not happy with my weight. It seemed to follow the typical path of gaining 5-10 lbs per decade after age 30-35 that lots of people experience. Once I learned the nutritional concepts from PN and Josh, I was easily able to lose the weight.
I learned it is so much more than eating the “right” foods and portion control. Being in the physician, I knew those things. But it was uncovering the psychology and the why behind my decisions that PN excelled at for me. Lessons present thought provoking questions that helped me to define what success looked like for me. They are easy to do. I have found them to be succinct and a great mix between dialogue, text, and professional graphics that keep my mind from wandering. I really have enjoyed delving into the science and psychology behind PN’s successful strategy.
I did not feel deprived. On the contrary, Josh and PN coaching have empowered me to know that I have the knowledge and tools to become a fit person for the long haul. I ain’t going back!
I will be forever grateful for all the people at WPF that have helped me!

Happy Easter WPF!!

Here is what is happening this week at your gym:

  • The month of April is Bring a Friend month! Friends are welcome to join the CrossFit classes any Saturday during the month and/or any Bootcamp class all month long! This is a great opportunity to show your friends what a great place WPF is!

There are a couple of incentives:
All friends are free. No drop-in fee!
    • Every current WPF athlete who brings a friend during the month will have their name as well as their friends name entered into a drawing for a free month!
    • Any current member who has a friend sign up for a membership will receive a free month (the value of the friend’s first month membership). Of course, this applies to brand new memberships only.
  • Want to start training for Murph? Roni would like to get a group together once a week for some runs with and without vests as well as work on the squats, pushups and pull-ups. Email her at roni@warriorpridefitness.com if you are interested!
  • Look in Wodify for the April 12th 7pm grocery store tour with Josh. This will be limited to 10 people so sign up if you are interested.

If you are traveling this week, travel safe!

Your WPF Team

01 Mar

Our March “Athlete of the Month” is Mike Resudek. Here is a quick Q&A we had him fill out so that our WPF community can learn a little more about him.

  1. When and how did you get started with us?
    • I got started September 7, 2017, at the urging of Ken Rodriquez who said I need to get my fat ass in the gym. I agreed and here I am. So far, made a lot of progress, but still have a long way to go.
  2. Favorite workout?
    • I enjoy partner workouts. It’s fun to push hard knowing others are counting on you to perform and encouraging your teammate(s)
  3. Least favorite workout?
    • I didn’t enjoy the 2000m row, 100 wallballs and another 2000m row. That hurt!
  4. What’s the best part about working out with your class time?
    • Everyone is super supportive, encouraging and friendly. I’d say this applies to the entire WPF family, which makes it great.
  5. What’s the wallpaper on your phone right now?
  6. What’s a song that you hope comes on during a WOD?
    • How could you not try your best and push yourself if “Gonna Fly Now” came on from Rocky
  7. What’s the last thing you searched for on Google?
    • Minnesota Twins shirts. I’m the head coach for my son’s baseball team (The Twins) and need to get some gear.
  8. What’s your favorite treat?
    • Does wine count? If not, I do like a crème brulee 🙂
  9. If you could be any animal in the world, what animal would you be and why?
    • Is this an interview? I think the right answer is a Dolphin because they are smart and everyone loves them. Haven’t thought about it much, but that sounds like a decent pick and it would be cool to explore the ocean!
  10. You’re a new addition to the crayon box. What color would you be and why?
    • These questions are crazy. I can’t think of a new color, so I’m going with something blue. It’s my favorite color.
