August’s Member of the Month is Bowen Strahan!

When and how did you get started with us?

  • After hearing about how good the workouts were and seeing my wife’s results, I joined in 2017 for a couple of months in hope of getting in shape before a surgery. However, I didn’t start coming regularly until January 2019.

Favorite workout?

  • I currently attend the Boot Camp classes and have enjoyed every one of them. Granted, if you asked me how I liked it right after the workout I may have given a different answer out of exhaustion. That said, I do love the challenge and high pace of each class. It is always a great workout and the coaches do an awesome job of mixing things up.

Least favorite workout?

  • Running is probably my least favorite thing to do. Although I’m not bad at it, it takes its toll on me. Now if you throw burpees into the mix with running….I’m dead. Done. Come scrape me off the floor.

What’s the best part about working out with the your class time?

  • Everyone in class is friendly, and we all help to push each other to do our best. Also, a perk of morning class is it’s not too hot for those outside workout days.

What’s a song that you hope comes on during a WOD?

  • Eye of the Tiger is always a good one.

What’s the last thing you searched for on Google?

  • DIY Alfredo sauce…it was pretty good too!

What’s your favorite treat?

  • LOL I’m gaining weight just thinking about this question. No shortage of sweets around our house, but if I had to say just one, it would be homemade banana pudding, or lemon squares, or maybe a key lime pie ice cream cone from Bruster’s. Hard to say really.

If you could be any animal in the world, what animal would you be and why?

  • I think I would choose an eagle. They get to fish and hunt all day and they’re protected. Living the wild life.

You’re a new addition to the crayon box. What color would you be and why?

  • Holy cow. Have you seen the size of the ultimate crayon collection box? It’s like 150 crayons – a kid’s dream and a parent’s nightmare. Best to make me clear and call me “Forgetful.” My wife can confirm. LOL

July’s Member of the Month is John Walburn!

When and how did you get started with us?

  • I started in February of 2017. When looking for a new CrossFit home I took advantage of the opportunity to WOD with one of my best friends, Bobby.

Favorite workout?

  • “Vader”:
    3 RFT 24/17 cal row
    21 WB
    18 DB snatch
    15 burpee over the erg
    That or anything with T2B, Burpees, Wallballs, BMU, DU, Snatches

Least favorite workout?

  • Anything with Deadlift, KB swings, Sit ups or the AB

What’s the best part about working out with the your class time?

  • I get to work out with my wife, she pushes me to go out of my comfort zone and be my best self. Jeff, Lief, and Chris are alright I guess. In all seriousness, I love to see the progress that everyone has made. It is inspiring the effort that everyone puts in. It truly is a safe place to push yourself past your comfort zone, reach for your goals and share your struggles.

What’s the wallpaper on your phone right now?

  • A pic of Becca and my youngest daughter walking the field at SunTrust park.

What’s a song that you hope comes on during a WOD?

  • I don’t really hear the music during a WOD, I tune just about everything out. The reggae music Randy plays is nice during the warm up.

What’s the last thing you searched for on Google?

  • Searches for today. Toy Story 4 showtimes, French word of the day for kids (for me it’s ok to be a beginner), Harry Potter riddles, and Platypus.

What’s your favorite treat?

  • Roller food at QT, and my daily brownie (helps offset all the other healthy stuff).

If you could be any animal in the world, what animal would you be and why?

  • Sea turtle. They live a really long time and travel the oceans, that just sounds really cool.

You’re a new addition to the crayon box. What color would you be and why?

  • Atlanta Falcons Red, Rise Up.

June’s Member of the Month is Kendra Askins !

When and how did you get started with us?

  • My mom started working out at Warrior Pride in 2014, & she invited me to come along with her to a class. I liked it, but was still doing jiujitsu at the time so I didn’t officially join. I decided that it was time to stop jiujitsu after 7 years because I felt at risk of getting hurt; I started regularly coming to classes about 2 years ago & enjoyed it, but I became much more frequent & serious about it about a year ago.

Favorite workout?

  • My favorite workouts usually include toes to bar, deadlifts, & overhead squats. Maybe handstand push-ups & muscle-ups too.

Least favorite workout?

  • The assault bike is clearly the worst invention ever thought of!! I’m also not a fan of box jumps, thrusters, double unders, or kettlebell swings.

What’s the best part about working out with the your class time?

  • I go to all different class times, but I like the 11:30 because of the positive energy & laid back vibe from that group.

What’s the wallpaper on your phone right now?

  • My lock screen is a family pic of my mom, step dad, & me skiing in Colorado last year, & my home screen is a pic of my boyfriend & me at prom.

What’s a song that you hope comes on during a WOD?

  • Outta Control – Rebelution

What’s the last thing you searched for on Google?

  • Billie Eilish & Rosarita refried beans (I almost made up an answer for this one because I didn’t want to explain it lol. On snapchat she said she had a “strange addiction” to rosarita refried beans & she had a pyramid of cans that I thought was unreasonably funny)

What’s your favorite treat?

  • Cheesecake!

If you could be any animal in the world, what animal would you be and why?

  • A dog because they get to sleep & eat all day with no judgment.

You’re a new addition to the crayon box. What color would you be and why?

  • Probably gray because it’s just kind of neutral to everything & doesn’t stand out very much in crowd.

May’s Member of the Month is Kristi Cox!

When and how did you get started with us?

  • Started in 2015. I needed an outlet and a friend suggested I try CrossFit. It took me almost a year to actually come in. I don’t think I could do it.

Favorite workout?

  • Anything with weights. I love the rush of getting a PR and the sound of the weights hitting the floor.

Least favorite workout?

  • Anything that involves the bike or burpees.

What’s the best part about working out with the your class time?

  • There is no better way to start the day. Everyone is so supportive. They push you to finish and motivate/cheer you on when you need the extra push. Randy always encourages you and knows when you have more to give and pushes you to get out of your comfort zone or your head, whichever is holding you back. And they make me laugh.

What’s the wallpaper on your phone right now?

  • Katrin Davidsdottir paddle boarding My goal is to be a 40+ year old version of her.

April’s Member of the Month is Jay Butler!

When and how did you get started with us?

  • I joined WPF sometime around May/June of 2016, at the suggestion of my wife, Rachel, who spoke highly of the community and workouts.

Favorite workout?

  • Difficult to narrow down, since the variety is a big part of the appeal of CrossFit. I enjoy partner WOD’s for the little extra motivation, though there is a lifting EMOM WOD I’ll go to at the fire station when I can’t decide on anything else.
    With a running clock, every minute perform 1 lift, adding 10 pounds each time (Women add 5.) Start with an empty barbell and Snatch for as long as possible. Once you cannot Snatch the weight, Clean for as long as possible. Once you cannot Clean the weight, Deadlift for as long as possible. (I can generally go about 30 minutes. The weight adds up faster than you think.)

Least favorite workout?

  • Most of The Girls and I are in the midst of Love/Hate relationships.

What’s the best part about working out with the your class time?

  • My work schedule is a bit unusual, so on my days off, the 4:15 slot works out great, fitting in nicely after the side job and house work, and before picking up Lochlan from school. The “regular” 4:15 group is an awesome bunch, with fantastic motivators.

What’s the wallpaper on your phone right now?

  • A photo of Rachel and Lochlan.

What’s a song that you hope comes on during a WOD?

  • Tough to go wrong with AC/DC or Dropkick Murphys

What’s the last thing you searched for on Google?

  • The Girls, just to remind myself how much fun they all are.

What’s your favorite treat?

  • Peanut Butter, whether it’s inside a Reese’s Cup or not.

If you could be any animal in the world, what animal would you be and why?

  • Mackenzie Valley Wolf, so I could be a part of a pack, instead of on my own in the wilderness, and if I’m picking, I might as well choose the largest of the species.

You’re a new addition to the crayon box. What color would you be and why?

  • Some new take on a dark shade of blue, or anything that blends in and meshes the best with the others. Never been much for drawing attention.

When and how did you get started with us?

  • I think it was May last year. I compared nearby options and liked the space, people and workouts the most at WPF. Other places I visited would have something bad to say about their competitors, but Jason and Roni never said anything negative about OTF or 9Round and urged me to try them all and pick the one that worked the best for me.

Favorite workout?

  • Anything not Burpees.

Least favorite workout?

  • Burpees.

What’s the best part about working out with the your class time?

  • Getting to know my classmates and coaches and being tired at the end of the day.

  • A picture of me and my wife.

What’s a song that you hope comes on during a WOD?

February’s Member of the Month is Sharyn Swales!

When and how did you get started with us?

  • I joined WPF in August 2014. I had heard a little bit about CrossFit and was interested in checking it out so I finally decided to just stop by and find out for myself — one of the best decisions I’ve ever made! I stared my Warrior training with Josh and here I am almost 5 years later! Oh, and there were 2 other people in my training group that are still here — JJ and Jeff!!

Favorite workout?

  • My favorite workout would include: rowing, situps, squats, pushups, lunges, and kettlebell swings

Least favorite workout?

  • My least favorite would be the BIKE! I just can’t seem to make it go anywhere fast!

What’s the best part about working out with the your class time?

  • I love working out with the class because of the coaches and the other members. I enjoy being a part of something that I love and look forward to doing. It is a big part of my life.

What’s the wallpaper on your phone right now?

  • My phone wallpaper is a picture of the beautiful beach in Rincon, PR.

What’s a song that you hope comes on during a WOD?

  • I like the song Despacito

  • One of the last things I searched for on Google was the “Bring Sally Up” song we did in class today. I really liked it!

  • My favorite treat is anything chocolate.

  • If I were an animal I think I would be a cat, so I could have 9 lives!

  • My crayon color would be a shade of yellow. It reminds me of the sun and warmth — which I love!

  • Parents saw new gym – asked to try it out in the Summer 2018.

  • Tribute WODs or anything with back Squats or weight lifting moves.

  • 12 days of Christmas (because it hurt 😊) or wallballs or running.

What’s the best part about working out with the your class time?

  • Light hearted comedy

When and how did you get started with us?

  • October 1, 2014 (just after my 50th birthday with JJ and Sharon in our Warrior in Training Classes). Called in and talked to Katherine (Kat) who dared me to come in and try it.

Favorite workout?

  • 21-15-9
    Thrusters, Rower, Pull Ups, Box Jumps (Rx 95#; RXW- 115#, C2B, 30” box)

Least favorite workout?

  • Anything over 20 minutes and/or anything with burpees

What’s the best part about working out with the your class time?

  • Awesome people who give it their all every class. Just a fun group to work out with and share the agony. They motivate me to always work harder.

October’s Member of the Month is Jody Freedlund!

Congratulations, Jody – you totally deserve this!

When and how did you get started with us?

  • I started with WPF back when it was Bootcamp at the church. I Believe it was 2011:) I wanted a regular fitness schedule and to meet some nice people. Mission accomplished!!

Favorite workout?

  • My favorite workout is any one which after I’ve finished I know I gave my best. I love deadlifts, power cleans, toes to bar, sled pulls, Ski Erg.

Least favorite workout?

  • Not a fan of wallballls but I’m working on not hating them. Snatched are still an uphill climb for me so I don’t love seeing them on the whiteboard.

What’s the best part about working out with the your class time?

  • My regular class is 5:15. It feels like a family. We support one another inside and outside of the gym.

What’s a song that you hope comes on during a WOD?

  • Workout music favorite for sure Eminem, and Michael Jackson, oddly:) Heavy metal is good too.

What’s the last thing you searched for on Google?

  • Google searches lately: kitchen knobs! 😂

What’s your favorite treat?

  • Pizza is my favorite treat.

If you could be any animal in the world, what animal would you be and why?

  • If I were an animal I would want to be one that is loved and cared for:)

  • My crayon would be one whose color could adapt to changes of light and shade.

Most importantly, CrossFit has changed my life! I’m thankful daily that I happened upon it and appreciate so much the patient coaching, encouragement and friendships! I feel stronger and fitter at 60 than I did at 40 😊
